For many Americans, everyday finance is an ongoing struggle. For most people dating is not cheap, especially for men. Why is that you might ask? Despite all the emancipation of women and most of them working and earning their money, in general it is still expected that men pay for the first date at least, if not on most dates. This statement is backed up by a recent NerdWallet survey of 1,000 people. It revealed that 77 %said men should pick up the tab on a first date. The better news is, over time, as the relationship develops, the costs get split more evenly. Having said that, depending on where and what activities the couple is participating in, dating can take a hefty toll on the wallets of women too, as well as men. However, there are ways to keep the cost of romance in check and provide just as much fun without breaking the bank account.
One idea is staying at home and cooking a meal together. Of course, a common sense would tell, this idea works best for couples that already know and trust each other. That is also a good way to show your potential partner your homey-side and your cooking skills if that is your strength. Just make sure your home and particularly your kitchen is clean and presented in the best light possible. That includes show casting some cool kitchen appliances, kitchen and cooking ware. There are great colorful kitchen tools out there on the market that can instantly brighten up and updating your kitchen without having to spend thousands and thousands of dollars in renovation. Cooking together and renting a movie can be a lot cheaper than the traditional restaurant-movie route. On top of that, you don’t have to worry about waiting in line or buying tickets in advance, which allows more time you can spend with your date.
The other dating activity that you can do that doesn’t cost much is exercising together. It’s a great and healthy way to get some exercise while you’re getting to know each other. If you are a gym member, most facilities provide a free pass to a friend. Just ask for one and take your date to the gym or to a round of badminton or squash. Playing together is a wonderful way to get to know each other and show your real you. Just make sure you adjust your intensity level to the one of your date. In addition, make sure you present yourself properly, even in your sweat pants or shorts and t-shirt. Make sure your cloth and shoes don’t stink. It might sound like common sense, but you would be surprised how many people go to work out in stinky cloth! Another fantastic idea is to take a hike in a local park or along the beach for his dates, and it’s either free or just $5 for a parking pass. That works best if you have nature trails or state or national parks near you or are willing to drive one that is close by, this could be a great option.
